From Hacks to Grids: This Month in the FEDSA Feed

Security scares, Node.js updates that might simplify your stack, and Figma’s new Grid Auto Layout, plus the KRS internship programme.

Hello again!

If you thought your week was chaotic, spare a thought for the poor devs who watched their favourite npm package get hijacked in real time. 🙃

Last month was a turbulent time for web security. Nearly two million user accounts were stolen from the infamous, vibe-coding darling, Tea App. Meanwhile, in the front-end world, a group of hackers hijacked the widely used eslint-config-prettier NPM package.

All of this unfolded in real time on a GitHub issue

The last two versions of Node.js have type stripping enabled by default. This means you might no longer need tools like ts-node, tsx, or even Deno - if you were using them purely for type safety.

The --experimental-strip-types flag now disables this functionality instead of enabling it. The new default behaviour is documented in detail here.

Grid Auto Layout is now available in open beta on Figma. While the traditional Auto Layout feature was built on CSS Flexbox, this new layout mode uses—and can even generate—CSS Grid code.
